I think the first one looks generally more rugged, and some people prefer that! As for me, I really like clean finishe, and the newer one satisfies this very much.

Well, the new one certainly has a cleaner finish, and the hands are a lot better drawn, (noticed the artist hid the right hand in the original).  
I think I prefer the eyes in the original to the new one though.
