That’s grasping at straws, don’t you think? I’m fairly certain that that phrase has lost most of it’s original meaning by this point, and is mostly just used as a G-rated version of “for Christ’s sake”. I didn’t even know that it was referencing St. Peter until you said something. I don’t think most people know; If they did, it’d likely be regarded as being just as blasphemous as “Christ’s sake”. Taking phrase as commonly used as “Pete’s sake” – a phrase used by literally everyone on the planet at some point or another, regardless of their beliefs – as quote-unquote “direct evidence” of pastel-colored ponies worshiping Jesus seems kinda cheap to me.

Probably; their control over natural phenomena does not extend to death; so there is probably a belief in the afterlife at least, and possibly some sort of religion. I have my own headcanon about that sort of thing.

Without the premis of old world religion as a basis, why add in the higher power mysticism? a govornment fuigure moves the sun. Things are very concrete in Equestria.

Such as what? Scientology? I feel like Celestia would have had something to say about that after all the “squirrel squad” stalking incidence, or the massive abuse allegations… Also… Is religion tax exempt in Equestria? Back to the bigger question. Is there religion? Probably not. Hasbro would not want to risk alienating anyone.

This neglects the school of religion that does find laws of science/nature/etc and order and design in the universe, and decides there must have been some supreme intelligence to have built as grand and precise a machine as the universe.

This supposes one particular reason for the existence of religion, and that lacking this one particular reason would mean that religion would not exist. That seems overly reductionist to me.

I’m pretty sure there are pockets, even if it’s not mainstream. The ponies may control nature in their own lands, but look how mindblown they are when they talk about the Everfree forest, where things happen on their own.

religion may have originated to reassure us about unexplainable phenomena, but what made it really catch on was how good it was at keeping the poor from taking theirs back from the rich.
