For Equestria Daily/Derpyhooves.com’s Summer Sun Celebration Contest. Which has been cancelled, I’m sorry to hear! Oh well, I got a nice meaty fanart out of it.

The Ursae are hands-down my favorite creatures in FiM, and also the most mysterious. Just how did a giant cosmic bear end up in Equestria in the first place? And are there other earthbound constellations around as well? We know the stars were Nightmare Moon’s allies; perhaps they are vestiges of Luna’s night that remained undiscovered and untamed through Celestia’s reign.

Summer is of course the best time for stargazing, and Equestria is no exception. Luna prepares to lead four summer constellations, Draco, Cygnus, Scorpio and Ursa Major, in a cosmic waltz through the balmy night sky. Maybe these were the very stars that led her to freedom one summer sun ago. Either way they’re one hell of a sight for anypony.

Also if you don’t care about speculative fan bullcrap, there’s an inevitable sextuple dose of good old-fashioned plot. Have a great summer!
