Parasprites reproduce asexually, essentially by budding. So it would actually make sense that they’re the larval form of a larger creature that reproduces sexually. I believe some insects hear on Earth actually alternate between asexual and sexual reproduction over the generations, so it’s plausible.
I believe that jellyfish do this.
