I think they censored other shit as well to make the show as non-confrontational as possible.
Because again, toddlers.
I mean, the show isn’t for toddlers, but that’s not the first dumb thing that this country has done.
It has to be more than that. If Gilda is creepy by their standards but not some of theother genuinely creepy shit they’ve gotten into that show, well, damn I don’t want to know about Brazil’s standards at all.
And if I’m not mistaken, the Gilda episode wasn’t aired in Brazil. Possibly because the show is on a channel for fucking toddlers.
And I don’t mean the target demograph little girls either, I mean kids so young that they can barely speak.
Screw other countries. We shouldn’t censor ourselves just because another country are bawling because they can’t handle it.
@The Smiling Pony
As it stands now, Turkey has up and banned about 8 episodes due to the Muslim faith: any episodes that involve a celebration that could be interpreted as religious, and pretty much anywhere Arab has censored anything relating to romance (through dubs or scene cuts). Also, the Italians didn’t get the Cider episode because of the blatant alcoholic overtones, as well as Dashie’s lines relating to Cider from “Bats!” (At least on TV; apparently their DVDs are untouched).
I guess i have to apologize about the Korrasami thing then , i havent watched the show i just heard about it on the Internet and they said it sounded like a thing thrown at the last minute
Korrasami was by no means last minute. If you pay attention, you’ll see that Korrasami and Asami grew closer with each season, and there were quite a few indicators that they were more than friends in the final season.
As for the rest of it, well… shippers gonna ship.
Or ,always the odd man out,put as a poor substitute for actual writing in Rainbow Rock to please the internet crowd aka pandering for cheap sympathy point
I have also to question the fandom every time they declare 2 characters as gay when their forehead touch or they look at each other direction
A different time. And it can just as easily mean G1 unicorns taste like ice cream.@Background Pony #496B
Yeah, it seems to me like that comparison is less apples to oranges and more apples to light bulbs.
Wait, that’s where berrygate comes from?
But I think what people are talking about here is rather direct undeniable stuff like a pony outright saying that another of the same sex is their “special somepony” or a “clearly romantic kiss”, that sort of stuff.
Lyrabon’s flirted with that a few times, but it’s background fodder for the obsessive fandom to gobble up and the animators to have some harmless fun, not anything “principal”.
@TexasUberAlles
Don’t these countries already ban a few episodes as is? Or would having a single gay episode make the entire series ABSOLUTELY HARAM?
IF I MAY INTERJECT
First one stopped before anything undeniable happened, second one I’m not sure it’s even meant to be that kind of affection.
MY HIGH SCHOOL YEARS ARE NOT ON TRIAL HERE, OKAY
And even if Hasbro didn’t want to export to those countries, there’s plenty of people in the US who’d be falling all over themselves to shout for boycotts and throw rocks and declare Hasbro a tool of the devil.
@Niggoslav_Krawczyk
Ah, unconventional as in “would be seen as weird in real life”. I thought you meant as in “not commonly shipped”.
BTW, if you argue chronological age, it actually gets worse, because now Spike’s not a child, and instead he’s developmentally disabled or something.
I will, however, agree with the guy who said the way Rarity acts towards him is problematic… but for the opposite reason. Rarity, you should be sitting him down and politely explaining why it’s not going to happen. What you should not do is add fuel to the fire by batting your eyes at him every time you need a favor. Now, which one of those are you actually doing? Yeah, cut it out or you’re gonna either hurt him or get hurt by him at some point.
But honestly, if the show stays basically how it’s been, I doubt any ship will become clear canon, with the obvious exception of those who were introduced as preexisting couples (Lyrabon still has plausible deniability). Even something like Cheesepie that pretty much nobody could start shit over outside an actual shipping war is probably impossible.
I’m pretty sure that the mummified corpse of a 60ish year old woman dating a 16yo philosopher would be way more controversial than Sparity.
Since when is Sparity unconventional?
I’d be happy to be wrong
Someone around here put their thumb on the elephant in the room; having openly homo characters would essentially make the show illegal in some countries with extra-special-scumbag governments like Russia, and Hasbro seems intent on expanding the franchise worldwide as hard as possible.
Also note that Korrasami wasn’t exactly full-on makin’ out with a liftaway transition to rumpled bedsheets in the morning, but a dialogue implication in literally the last scene in a series that had already gone web-only. It’s gonna be 2121 before some %#$&ers drag they asses into the 21st Century, and they’ll be holdin’ the rest of us back the whole time.
You won’t be, but sometimes it’s nice to dream.
@Scrounge
Not gonna happen in this decade. Lyrabon’s subtle existence is as close as it’s getting; no direct mentions, nothing obvious on screen, etc. Just often being together in the same scene.
Korra is aimed at teens and young adults, and it’s main product is itself. MLP is aimed at a much younger audience, and it’s main product is toys and licensed material parents have to buy. Parents that will likely be watching with their kids and freaking out over anything a kid might accurately interpret as “gay”.
I’d be happy to be wrong.
That’d depend on how widely noticed and influential Korrasami is.
If it happens, my guess is Lyrabon, ‘cause as of Rainbow Rocks they’re edging close already. Not quite the same as it being a main character, but let’s be fair, out of the main cast, only Rarity, Spike, and Twilight ever think about that sort of thing at all, and Twilight only in the Equestria Girls movies. Generally not much dating on this show.
I’m not saying that it will happen, I’m just saying that it could, and also that I’m using way too many commas in this post.
