Oddly enough, I consider the opposite to be true; In the case of not wanting their servos to lock up, that would explain them doing more “unusual” things that would require actions like those depicted in the comic.

If they’re programmed to look around actively, it would sound more like they might get into hijinks while, say, running through the halls n’ such.

Though a personal favorite scenario of mine for FNAF2, is the idea of one of the animatronics going through the air vent in order to locate a person before getting stuck in the vent, resulting in the other animatronics needing to go to that same air vent and working together to free the animatronic that can’t free itself.

Just… that image of having the old models pull from the back, and the newer ones (Balloon Boy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chika, The Mangle, maybe Marionette) push from the front. XD

It makes more sense when you consider the laws of it in FNaF’s 2, where they’d think they were in the wrong room when it gets quiet for too long. The idea of them moving to keep their servos from locking up just isn’t enough to give you the creeps.

Although, considering how these are more sentient beings, I can only assume that they wouldn’t be looking for very long before deciding to go back.

Well in the first game, it says that they’re left on during the night because turning them off messes with their circuits or something (I forget. XD). In the second game, it says that they were never given a proper “night mode” and wander around looking for where the people are.

So… yeah; it’s believable that they’d move around if no one was there.
