“By hiding our alicorn magic from Tirek, he’ll eventually get bored and leave Equestria, with everypony’s magic, and start burning down someone else’s house!”
Only this time, with the added bonus of “keep everything that happened a secret from the others, allow them to stuff their heads into the grounds like ostriches, and do absolutely nothing.”
“But what about just zapping Tirek in the hea-”
“OUT OF THE QUESTION! I AM THE RULER HERE! YOU MAY FEEL FREE TO TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS BUT NOT WHEN THOSE INSTINCTS INTERFERE WITH ME OR THE OTHER PRINCESSES!”
Which she did again with Tirek.
Tell that city full of citizens who were trapped in time for 1000 years that they are a very “contained situation” and that their threat was “beaten” before. I am sure they would find “fairness” in that.
Add on top of that the whole “previously, you’ve been sending me friendship reports about how awesome friendship was and how it saved my sister from being a monster that almost killed everyone and sealed away a chaos loving dragon, but right now forget your friends and do this shit on your own.” thing.
In fairness, it was a villain Luna and Celestia could have beaten themselves and have don so before, and in an area that’s generally cut off from Equestria itself. Sure, a city’s worth of people could be lost, but it was still a very contained situation
At this point I have to ask what “rule” even means.
Let’s see…
“But Twilight, in the end, it must be you and you alone who ultimately assists Princess Cadance and Shining Armor in doing what needs to be done to protect the Empire.”
Yeah, I guess that’s the intent. Though, as was noted, Celestia went on to say:
“Twilight, as I understand it, Spike brought Princess Cadance the Crystal Heart because you weren’t sure how quickly you could find a way to escape the tower. You weren’t willing to risk the future of the citizens of the Crystal Empire in an effort to guarantee your own. Far better that I have a student who understands the meaning of self-sacrifice than one who only looks out for her own best interests.”
So, yeah, Sunbutt used the return of Pony Saruman as a pop quiz. Wow. Way to go, Tia.
But in the end it turned out Celestia expected Twilight to break the rules or something about how she let others help her to save others…so she never broke any rules really.
I mean, she’s not even using dark magic here.
Really?
Because the context I remember was that she was supposed to go it alone and brought Spike with her, which actually was breaking the rule set by SunButt.
The logic of the image seems to be that if Twilight hadn’t used dark magic, she would have never found the Crystal Heart, and thus Sombra would’ve eventually overwhelmed Cadance and retaken the Empire.
Of course, the key failing here is that Twilight was never forbidden from using dark magic, so she never actually broke any rules.
