There’ll always be “those people”.
Fortunately, not everyone takes it too seriously. And while I do hope that he gets his own bed/room now that they live in a castle, I kinda think that’ll only happen when/IF he grows a bit.
Yay for understanding!
Oh, sorry. I can understand if that is the case then.
That is true though! Spike doesn’t get loved, though honestly I thinks it’s unintentional. It’s a girls show after all so it focuses on the girls. At least he’s more of character then lot of other men.
I’m glad we could come to agreement! Yay power of friendship!
Sorry. I have friends whose parents emotionally abused them for years all the while convincing them that they were “loved”. So when someone says that “children can’t have Stockholm syndrome when their parents are involved”, it makes me more than a little irked. You made a simple mistake, and I should have come across a little less aggressive.
But yeah, Spike isn’t treated the best by the show or its characters. But slavery? I think that is more than stretching it a little. Or, in this case, stretching it a lot.
The sad part was after I posted that, I was thinking about that and realized how wrong it was later. Sadly you can not edit posts.
What the hell was with that post though? Seriously dude just coming out the gate aggressive as can be. Not cool man.
Anyways, do we have any proof of abuse? He’s certainly well fed, he’s free to do what he wants for the most part, except his ‘chores’. The grounds that spike is slave is absurd, one could simply mention from the fact it’s a children’s show. Beyond that he clearly is not enslaved.
Let’s not forget that he is an honored hero, with his own statue, princesses bowing to him. Slaves usually don’t get such honors, their masters would.
First off, that was a terrible episode, it forced traits onto spike he didn’t have. I for the most part don’t even think that episode should be canon, but that isn’t my choice.
I think Twilight was just so involved in the book she wasn’t even paying attention. Plus willingly serving someone is completely different.
Plus if you recall spike is held as hero in the Crystal Kingdom with his own statue and a princess bowing to him, so there is that.

You got to be kidding me about the can’t develop Stockholm Syndrome with your parents crap. While I agree that a lot of the claims of Spikeabuse are completely unfound, guess what buddy? You can develop Stockholm Syndrome with your parents. You know how many parents emotionally abuse their children? And how many of those children accept their situation because they convince themselves that their parents love them? Or how of those abusive parents brainwash and manipulate children to prevent them from seeking protection or help?
So yeah, parents can emotionally abuse their kids, and the kids can develop something similar to Stockholm syndrome as a result.
You know, I can see your point and if this were still seasons 1, 2 or the S3 premiere I could believe that, but after Spike at your service when Twilight doesn’t even react to Spike selling himself into indentured servitude because she’s too busy reading a book, I just don’t see it anymore.
First off Twilight raised spike from an egg, so she’s basically an adopted mother with an older sister/younger brother relationship with him. You can’t develop Stockholm Syndrome with your adopted parent.
Plus slavery is a very passing thing when you will out live everyone around you and turn into a titan that can crush mountains. Not to mention he’s extremely lazy, if it was slavery he wouldn’t be allowed to screw around or do half the crap he does.
Maybe he sleeps in small dog bed, because, you know….it’s the perfect size for him? He never complains of poor sleep or back pains.
Sigh The amount of Spikeabuse is TOO DAMN HIGH!
They’re just writing him out of episodes completely at this point.
He doesn’t really. It’s not like Spike has exactly been given any good episodes. I can’t even decide whether at this point it would be better to just not give him any episodes anymore. With each new one they devalue the character even more.
You need to turn your cynicism down a wee bit.

Stockholm Syndrome makes more sense.
Honestly not expecting much for him in S5. Oh well.
@Itsthinking
House Slave also comes to mind.
Yeah that makes more sense.
I don’t think it’s slavery if you’re doing something of your own free will, which Spike seems to be (he was falling apart imagining Twilight sending him away and not needing him anymore). I guess you could argue Stockholm syndrome if you wanted to though, lol.
The bed is made so the pet inside can get out when it wants; you don’t want that in a bassinet. Hopefully a smaller bed next to Twilight’s.
So a slave that is completely brainwashed?
I think some bassinets can be more on the ground or closer looking to his bed but yeah, overall definitely does look more like a pet bed (my dog used to have one like that). Maybe he’ll get a cute little tiny replacement one made out of crystal in the new season.
And well he never seems forced to do anything or like he’s unhappy about it or his life (sometimes he’s snarky about chores and stuff, but more often eager to work and be useful) so… an apprentice or indentured servant, maybe?
It was definitely based on a dog bed:
Regardless, RIP.
Well this incarnation is kill. So…a slave?
May the Best Pet Win is when doubts of his status as an equal were debunked? All this bloody time I’ve been under the crazy impression that it was the very first episode.
