Well, I hate my birthdays exactly because others think I’m obliged to have fun. No other day like Christmas or Halloween or whatever enforce such an obligation on me, but if I don’t want to have fun with everyone else on my own birthday, people become strangely upset and can even take offense. I’m kind of fed up with this “Cheer up, it’s your special day” mantra. It sucks. It just doesn’t work for me.
Just don’t be goofy like I did, I suggest. When I got to be 18 years old I ended up being like “LOL Now I don’t have to listen to my parents” and three months later I got ridiculously sick with a cold because I didn’t listen to them; So bad that I couldn’t eat or hold a guitar. Though I was a bit overweight at the time too and I wasn’t as healthy then as I am now. Cockiness = stupidity.
Just remember, you’ll still be hot long after she’s dead.
i think counting the age in years is just practically good. i mean we could also count in decades, but then we might miss our birthday by a year or so. counting in anything faster than years wouldn’t make sense. it is optimal for our lifespan to count in years, you rarely get over 100 and the point where you add one is always in the same season, so it is easy to remember.

We do age continuously, but it’s not something people normally think about for every second, minute, and hour. The bam! doesn’t happen to us physically, but mentally because there is no better time where the idea of your life passing on by pops up than a celebration of BAM! another year.
I mourn slipped away years every day.
