Actually, in their case, Poison mix well with their Ghost typing: the only extra weakness they receive is against Psychic - since Levitate removes their weakness against Ground - , which is a fairly uncommon attacking type, and whose STAB users take a huge blow from Gengar’s Shadow Ball. Not to mention it gives them resistance against Fairy attacks now.
