I probably would have had him hanging from Pinkie’s tail or riding her mane’s spitcurl hook, since it does look like gravity is still in effect under there. Possibly standing on Twilight’s head and reaching up to Pinkie.

Well, at this point there’s not much room. I woulda had him hanging from Pinkie’s leg, or riding Twilight sidesaddle.

And I hope you’re just ironically emulating the folks who complain about Spike fans who do complain about nothing.
 
He’s not always on her back. The artist, a supposedly creative individual, could easily have placed him elsewhere in the picture, or had him interacting with another pony. Constantly tying him to Twilight places limitations on how far his character can develop and how much chemistry can be generated between himself and any pony who isn’t Twilight. We’ve had four seasons, and he still has virtually no relationship with the other four ponies.
 
I want to see him forge his own identity and earn some solid reasons for being part of the cast. At this point he’s basically a token male, and an extension of Twilight who can deviate from her once in a while without affecting anything major. This means the show could cut him from the cast without losing anything.
 
I did say that I’m happy he was in the picture, did I not? Maybe I also should’ve said I like the picture.

Uhh… he rides on her back in the show… it’s not a sign of subservience. Also Twilight isn’t doing anything with anyone either.

So where’s Spike? Stuck on Twilight’s back instead of doing something with another pony and being his own character? I’m happy he was included, even if that sounds disturbingly like a compromise.
