I don’t mind one bit. Actually I have plans for that elderly librarian pony in a future comic - he won’t be haunting ponies exactly, but he will be giving Twilight nightmares…

I don’t know that muffinshire would really mind so long as it is all clearly in jest and for fun. Personally I just love reinterpreting pictures and such.
 
Oh, and perhaps if you do neglect to return a book he starts out by appearing on your lawn late at night shrouded in mist while waving his front hooves and going, “Return the slab book!”

Maybe in Equestria, the undead are just ponies whose special talents are variations on “persistence.” Point them at an easy task to do for eternity and they’re happy…
 
(I do want muffinshire to know I’m not ragging on him for this or even that it’s dominating my reaction to the comic panel! It was just an unusual thing to mention. I do see where his closed eye is.)

It would seem so, all he wants is to continue his studies and help others learn, very nice chap! Though I have herd things can start getting a little bit spooky if you damage a book without trying to make amends or fail to return a book past the third overdue warning…
 
Also I think the his being wrinkly, bald and that shade of green add to the “zombie-fied” look.
