Seriously though, BP also needs to realize that FiW’s creators are American, and Americans do not have the same racial hangups about Gypsies/Roma as Europeans; most find them a fascinating throwback as opposed to a crime-ridden nuisance (incidentally, Travellers are the ones that are actually giant assholes; they’re also the more common group in the US).

We do not associate the term gypsy with race. Were we speaking Spanish or Latin, we say “negro” or “nigrum” for “black” because that is what it means. Culture of a language determines the meaning of its words. Otherwise, I’ve a gargantuan list of etymologies for words you use that would offend someone, somewhere, at some point in history. Better stop speaking and get reading. You might offend a mummy. No, wait, reading is a sign of privilege. Better not do that.
 
Furthermore, as opposed to what? Traveler? Wanderer? Vagabond? Bum? Tramp? Beggar? Hobo? Nomad? “Migrant Worker”? Foreigner? Vagrant? Roamer? Bohemian? Sharper? Each means something different (not one describes this specific concept). The closest you get is old English, the “Scop”, which would be misused because it specifically means OLD ENGLISH BARD.
 
As if actual gypsies would be so very fucking upset that Americans and others associate it with only positives, such as this character whose only existence is to make people happy.
