The artist has confirmed that it does take place 170 years after the end of S04. The 100 years thing is 100 years after the death of Rarity, which is in turn 70 years after the end of S04.

I’m half certain the panel that says 80 years is supposed to say 10. Making this timeline total 100 years instead of 170. The disclaimer on each page says the comic takes place 100 years after S04E26. :T

Okay, maybe it’s a passing-the-torch thing, Granny Smith has lived long past her time, and has chosen AJ to take her place.
 
As for what I said about Rainbow Dash, I stand by it. I can’t imagine her dying of old age, at the very least; she’d be determined to go out in a blaze of glory. I can see her intentionally biting off more than she can chew just so she can die facing impossible odds and know everpony will be talking about her even after she’s gone. “I’m not scared of death. I’m just worried that someday I’ll have to stop living.”

I have no idea what the hell’s even up with some of this, but I do think it’s spot-on in terms of how Rainbow Dash will die.
 
Actually, that’s my headcanon. When Rainbow Dash dies, she won’t leave a body. She’ll leave a crater.

My headcanon is that Granny Smith has lived longer than should be possible for any mortal pony, and that it’s somehow related to zap apples. (This fixes a continuity error involving the founding of Ponyville, plus I just like the idea.) If that’s the case, why wouldn’t she teach AJ the secret?

From this, I’m going to assume that AJ either became a changeling like Chang Bond and moved to changeling land, or she realized she was no mere mortal, and acceded from her mortal shell into the deity of the sacred fruit, apples.
