I guess I’ve really fallen out of touch with this fandom. DoctorDerpy has overtaken DerpyTop…and then some!
Oh there is plenty of personality to be found. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Videos, fanfiction, comics. So quit complaining because if it bothers you that much then you are the only one keeping yourself from fixing it.
Then go read a fanfic.
Something that ISN’T an obsession? Like an actual personality? This fandom loves the mane characters becaue they have well rounded personalities, and yet the BG ponies they love as much. have, well, not much, if anything.
Obsession =/= personality.
They are the only thing we have to go by. What else do you want? Randomly make Lyra obsess with oranges?
Sometimes, and they’re usually portrayed as platonic friends most of the time surprisingly. (Unlike the other “duos” shown here whom are always major ’shipping-fuel for some reason.)

Even if they kinda are, let’s not start that drama again.
It’s bad enough we can’t make any Gak or chicken jokes anymore without causing butthurt/drama.
That’s actually part of my headcanon. Earth ponies, on average, are the most mentally stable of the tribes. On the other hand, when they go crazy, they really go crazy. (cf. Loose, Screw; Pie, Pinkamena)
So they’re more… down to earth?
Would’ve been funnier if DJ said “WUBS!” instead.
