My headcanon is that the finned ponies in the boxes are their true forms, and the huge Hippocampus forms are as much projections in Equestria as they are in the human world. Most ponies only ever saw the projections, and Starswirl didn’t really discuss more than the basics of his defeat of them, so it was the projections that ended up in the history books.

I know they said that there where only three sirens. But could it be possible that that was an exaggeration,and that we could see some see ponies in season 5? The not evil kind.

Look way better than Seaponies/mermares.

my theory is that they were originally kelpies who found what remained of the three iwndigos slain by friendhsip fire. they took the ssence and infused it into the gems to gain the aiblity to absorb negative energy. and they influence negative energy using their voices. however the gems fused into their bodies and they becames more beastly in apperance and more like the windigos.
 
meaning their true forms were not shown because we only know their corrupted shapes…… and i think they are still in trouble. if they wer banished a thousand years ago, it means the magic they feed on is what hkept them alive and young. without it they are doomed to age and eventaully die.

they are kelpies, but they somehow found what remained of the three windigos slain by the friendship fire. they infused the essence into gems, giving them the power to feed on negative energy, and using their voices to influence others into negative emotion and action to feed on.  
however this resulted in them becoming far more beastly and physically more like the windigos.

heck it seems that their forms are basically yhe result of their gems. look at the picture here. each one has some kind of emblem on their chests. i am thinking that their true forms are something else. maybe they were merponies or kelpies that gained those gems which have characteristics like the windigoes.

Windigos mixed with Sirens. Sirens are beautiful until you’re in their Event Horizon zone, then they’re more like murderous hags.
