I know this is four years old (at least), but I don’t think it was confirmed that Buttons and Slugger were really a couple, and that it was just Slugger that had a crush on her. In fact, when I first saw the episode, I thought that he and Buttons were siblings, just because they were called Big Brother Ponies and that was why he was so concerned about her, even though she’s a Unicorn and he’s an Earthling.
As much as I love the Sweetheart/Teddy pairing, having recently rewatched the series on DVD I realise now that they weren’t a canon couple - they were really good friends and Sweetheart had a crush on Teddy. But Teddy has a crush on Bon-Bon, as evidenced in “Bon-Bon’s Diary”… I hope Sweetheart would end up with him though, they make a much cuter couple. :3
