-characters were established way before involved in romantic relationship

Discord as spirit of chaos and force of entropy that comes with nature(his cutie mark as tornato represent the harsh side of nature like earthquakes,tsunami,drought etc.)  
Fluttershy as element of harmony and the symbol of peace in nature (her cutie mark as butterflies represent the beautiful side of nature like fascinating animals and plants or the beauty of natural landscapes)
