Well, in the United States there wasn’t something of the sort, but in Rome, there is Tiberius spending the latter half of his rule exiled in Capri and having his praetorian prefects managing the administration in his absence (he even had to execute the first because he apparently had started plotting to take advantage of his absence to overthrow him).
 
And as to what that sort of thing could do to her reputation there’s a example:
 
While Tiberius was in Capri, rumours abounded as to what exactly he was doing there. Suetonius records the rumours of lurid tales of sexual perversity, including graphic depictions of child molestation, and cruelty, and most of all his paranoia. While heavily sensationalized,Suetonius’ stories at least paint a picture of how Tiberius was perceived by the Roman senatorial class, and what his impact on the Principate was during his 23 years of rule.

Or her dreams (assuming she gets that power sometime after sending Moon to the moon) help her cope with the past unaware they are future events. Not entirely sure what American event is comparable to Celestia being reclusive, but one could imagine Equestrian morale would have declined because Celestia lost her marbles for 600 years. :D
