Cheerimac and Fluttercord are plausible because most of the shipping fanbase was formed on the interactions and scenes in the tv show. It is explored and developed as KimPossible/Ron Stoppable Aang/Katara Robin/Starfire etc. They were friends for most episodes and seasons, only in last episodes they pushed the friendship into next level. It is normal for shippers to predict if they going to do the same in FiM especially when Meghan use such sentences as “Twilight not ready for commitment YET”. If you think that series will never mention love then you should be aware of what Princess Cadance role in Equestria is.
Dislestia and Fluttermac on the other hand was always based on fanarts, fanfictions and assumptions that either “they have same personality so they will love eachother” or “opposites attracts and they will love eachothers”.

Dislestia was around long before that flower scene; confirmation that it was an apology is kind of irrelevant.

Seriously, I am so tired of people who feel the need to declare that some ship or another is dead; I see it most often with Dislestia, but I’ve seen it with FlutterMac and others. The fact that it’s a cartoon for children ensures there will never be a canon same-sex ship and this does not lead anyone to run around posting “TwiLuna is officially dead!” No one has to declare that anthro is officially dead because Equestria Girls has the humanized version as full humans. So what is this with “Such and such ship is dead because canon makes another ship more plausible/ apparent evidence of ship has been discredited as such / any other reason to declare a ship dead”?

You cannot kill a fan shipping. Fans of that ship will write and draw it regardless of canon, and since neither Discord or Celestia are ever likely to be given a romantic relationship with anyone in the cartoon, and given that they have known each other for over a thousand years so even if there is a canon ship it doesn’t discredit the possibility of it being in the past… Seriously, if McCarthy says “Discord and Celestia actually can’t stand each other” the fans will take it as seriously as fans took “Twilight won’t outlive her friends.” Given the numbers of alicorn-immortality-angst fics still being written about Twilight, that translates to “not seriously at all.”

Yes, the ship is implausible. Almost every ship is implausible because this is a cartoon for preteens. Canon will probably never actually established a finalized ship for anyone, and even if it did, divorce and death exist in the MLP universe, so that still wouldn’t kill the ship.
