Notice how in canon they never use their fangs and horn. I like to think they absorb the blows. Beat em, stab em, light them on fire, they just reform themselves until exsanguination, brain destruction and/or total magical drainage.
They don’t kill because there is very little an average guard can do to hurt a pinned down changeling before they are taken down by another. They just pin the enemy and goo them.
My theory is that without a queen giving them orders, Changelings are borderline useless. Not to mention overall weaker in direct combat.
They wouldn’t be able to shapeshift if they didn’t need to.
Shapeshifting is a hell of an ability to waste on what amount to dumb orcs.
