Yeah, Twilight while she is quite smart, does have a tendency to make bad decisions, and I kinda agree, it was wrong on both parties’ parts. What both Twilight, and her friends did was wrong. They’re not perfect, after all they’re only human. ;)
Not a bad idea, you could go for it if you wish.
‘A Canterlot Wedding’ is my second most-watched episode of MLP (the first is ‘Twilight’s Kingdom’), I’ve had plenty of time to analyze the episode, as well as the dilemma of Twilight being abandoned by her friends. Twilight definitely made a bad move, barging in on the wedding rehearsal and spouting accusations like an immature school filly. However, in her defense, she panicked and probably didn’t think she had any alternatives. Maybe if she had gone to Princess Celestia and calmly explained everything she had seen, perhaps things would have gone differently.
As for Twilight’s friends, they weren’t any less guilty. Whether the bride was suffering premarital stress or not, Twilight had legitimate complaints about her bitchy behavior. But rather than give her the benefit of the doubt, they just assumed she was being possessive of Shining Armor.
Bearing these facts in mind, I’ve come up with ideas for alternate and “deleted scenes” to expand upon the episode. Perhaps I may draw a comic based on these ideas…
Well, I suppose they did kinda blow her off then. (Been a long time sense I saw that part admittedly.) Pinkie was the only one who didn’t seem to look upset with Twi’ there.
Though, you have to understand that they thought Twilight wrongfully accused Cadance, made her cry, was acting strange earlier, and such, so you can’t really blame them for being a li’l miffed at Twi’. Though, for all we know before the wedding, they might’ve gone looking for her to see if she was ok, during the time Twilight was trapped in the caves under the city.
“I didn’t see them as blowing her off, but more like afraid to intervene between Twilight & her brother.”
Actually…
I clearly remember this scene, mostly because of the disappointed looks on the characters’ faces. In fact, AJ is visibly pissed, staring daggers at Twilight as they pass by her.
No that wasn’t it, the one I was thinking of was a one-shot with one chapter. I remember the picture used for it was Twilight comforting Spike. >>473752
I didn’t see them as blowing her off, but more like afraid to intervene between Twilight & her brother. Though, yeah I kinda agree it would’ve been nicer if they patched things up a bit. Still, that might’ve taken to much time from the show, and I think that’s what AJ’s apology was meant to do, so you could imagine the others apologized to her, as well off-screen.
I believe you’re thinking about ‘Post Nuptials’ and I agree, it is a good fic. I love how each chapter focused on an individual character and how they dealt with the guilt of what they did to Twilight.
Anyway, maybe it’s just me, but it really bugs the hell out of me when conflicts like that never get a proper resolution. Sure, Applejack apologized, but that wasn’t enough! My problem with that whole mess–ignoring the fact that Twilight’s friends seemed to forget what they learned in ‘Lesson Zero’–they straight-up blew off Twilight for a pony they had never even met before! It’s easy to assume that they patched things up off-screen, but it would make me feel much better actually SEEING it with my own eyes.
Well, Applejack did apologize, and the others did look like they felt real bad for her, but looked afraid to say anything after Shiny chewed her out for upsetting his (fake) future-waifu. (At the end of the first part) So I assume She reconciled with her friends, and Shiny more after the Changeling incicent, and with her friends. Shiny actually seems like a nice guy, so he probably felt real bad about how he treated his little sister best friend forever.
There was a fanfic, (I can’t remember it’s name) that takes place after the wedding, that showed Twilight’s friends, and Spike felt bad about that incident, and Spike felt so bad he kept having nightmares of said incident taking a turn for the worst. It was actually pretty good.
And that’s precisely why I wish they could have dedicated more time to having Twilight reconciling with her friends in ‘A Canterlot Wedding!’ After seeing how badly Twilight freaked because she couldn’t write a friendship report, being rebuked and rejected by her loved ones should have devastated her! If Not-Cadance hadn’t returned to imprison her in those caves, thrusting her back into the game, she probably would have caught the first train back to Ponyville and shut herself inside the library, while Canterlot got overrun by changelings!
Poor Rarity. In a way I think they all kinda fear losing each other as friends. (Especially, Twilight.)
Well, according to the second story arc in the mainline IDW comics, Rarity’s greatest fear is her friends rejecting her generosity. After lashing out at her friends and taking advantage of their willingness to help save her fashion career, she realized her mistake and feared the worst.
Let’s be honest, all the ponies in this town really are crazy.
