I actually think the Princesses would have done exactly that if not for one thing: Twilight is the one with a talent for magic. And yet even she had trouble to handle the power of four alicorns at once.
Imagine if they transferred all that power into a pony with less magical mastery, let alone one who is not even a unicorn. That pony would have exploded.
