Here’s my thought: Part 3 has the mane 6 and Discord trick Tirek into overexerting himself by playing to his pride and insisting they’re not impressed by anything he does, provoking him into tiring himself out more and more on increasingly show-offy spells until eventually he tries to use every ounce of magic he has at once and just can’t handle it all.
Yeah, I was surprised they didn’t go the old, “Absorbs too much power, can’t handle it, and explode” route. That’s practically a cliche at this point. Then again, if they did that, we wouldn’t have had Rainbow Power, but perhaps they could’ve had Tirek become a bit unstable as he absorbed so much power…
I would’ve laughed if that’s what they did in the show and then Tirek just exploded.
Though if it had been a three-parter (something that I’m surprised the show hasn’t done yet), this would be a pretty good cliffhanger point.
