You know…upon further inspection, when they all hang their heads upon funneling their magic together, I actually see their Cutie Marks vanish, and Celestia’s and Luna’s manes and tails stop flowing.
 
I have to get a better look watching it on YouTube. Bigger size than an animation, and better graphics.
 
I think I actually see Celestia’s sun Cutie Mark vanish the instant they finish pooling their magic, right when her mane and tail stop flowing. Maybe Cadence’s Crystal Heart Cutie Mark as well…

Whoa. Totally didn’t notice that the first time around.

Yeah, once Celestia and Luna give up their magic and Cutie Marks, their manes and tails stop flowing as well.
 
A clear indication of how the weaker they are, the less their manes and tails have that eternal flowing motion to them.
 
No magic, no flow.
 
At least when we see them get their magic back in Tartarus, Celestia’s mane and tail start flowing again, as does Luna’s soon after.
