I heard that it was legal for businesses to fire people based on videos of them on the internet and I went to search about that and found this shitload of fuck.
Ah, a sandvich safe! Did you trade for that or was it a lucky craft?
This is what I use to bring my lunch to work in btw
@Background Pony #A6EB
Everyone at his job had custom backgrounds. That doesn’t matter in any way shape or form.
Don’t act like you were there. Perhaps the kid initiated the conversation, and he was just being polite. And maybe those people are normally perfectly alright with their employees setting their own computer backgrounds, which is normal enough. When I read the story a while back, it sounded like he really hadn’t done very much to offend anyone or impede his work at all. It wasn’t fair, but I’m not really in favor of saying that we need new laws to prevent this sort of thing either.
The computer is company property, not personal. He should have never had that as his desktop image to begin with.
More than likely this guy probably had issues before and was making his co workers uncomfortable. I imagine talking to his boss’s daughter was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Not really. The boss guy sounded pretty biased to me. Telling the dude what desktop background he should have and what topics are off-limits in casual chat is micromanagement and just plain unreasonable.
I think it probably has to do more with them wanting to maintain a professional atmosphere than it does with ponies.
That’s like firing a person because he likes to play video games or not hiring a guy because he enjoys riding a bike to work. Seriously.
Some people need to learn how to be tolerant.
At Will Employment varies from state to state, so before you make yourself look even more stupid, research before you speak.
The man was talking to his boss’s kid about a children’s television show, it’s a wrap. There’s no way a rep could work with this that would look good. The man is better off looking for a workplace more tolerant of his hobbies instead of working with co workers who most likely didn’t like him.
Maybe. I don’t know the full story, but if he has a case, he can take it up with his union
I don’t know what fantasy world you’re living in but in the real world we have unions and many of them are entrenched in various industries in the US. I myself am part of a union but that doesn’t exempt me from being fired at will since my state has an At Will Employment law and my Company has an At Will Employment policy.
Yes folks, your personal life can have an affect on your career, so if you think one of your hobbies should be better off kept to yourself, do so. Also, don’t forget that this man was talking to his Boss’s daughter about a children’s tv show, cause to make any parent a little worried
Unfortunately yes. Clearly this problem can only be solved by forbidding anyone from being fired without a six month application and review process by the department of fairness.
Is it really so hard for some people to not talk about ponies when nobody else around them clearly don’t give a shit about them?
Yeah, that’s America. Your boss can practically go to your house and look through your pantry if he wants to.
He should be able to, but this article tries to make the case that the employer is in the legal right. I’d be interested to see how it’d play out in court, though.
Theres no protections for workers like that in the US. “wrongful termination” is only really a thing if you are fired for race or gender or something.
But then can’t the fired employee launch a claim against his employer? He certainly would be able to in England.
Not the “gamer girl” thing. I definitely wouldn’t want girls like this playing games I like. Any others would be cool though.
