I was shocked and appalled when I first went to the US and learned that American “Smarties” are those gross little chalky pill-like candies (called “Rockets” in Canada), and not the delicious M%M-like candies called Smarties in Canada.

No no no no. BC poutine is to the real stuff what a package of deli-sliced turkey is to a Thanksgiving dinner.
Chinese-made American Chinese food (wrap your head around that), on the other hand, is disgusting. I got some in Nanjing Lu, figuring it would be fantastic, and it was one of the worst things I had ever eaten. Actual Chinese food, on the other hand, is great.
I’m pretty close to Canada so I get poutine whenever I can! It’s the British Columbian variety though, probably just as good but I really wouldn’t know.
My bad :P
Now, speaking of fries, if you want fries that are actually French you need to swing up north and get some poutine from Québec. I know they have it in America, but you have not lived until you’ve had it fresh from the source.

Believe it or not, the American version of Chinese food we all know and love actually is called Chinese Food in China. Not a translated version of that, but literally said “Chinese Food”. It’s not common over there, but can be found in Shanghai. The ‘Chinese Food’ we have here is about as Chinese as French Fries are French.
