No, but seriously, there’s nothing wrong with Rarity actually acknowledging Spike as a good friend. In fact, the very idea that Rarity was willing to let Spike accompany her on her journey to force her creative vision upon the rest of Equestria was very interesting, to say the least.

I don’t recall Spike ever trying to get in a relationship with Rarity. He likes her, but it looks more like he’s maintaining the status quo out of fear of the inevitable rejection to such a request.
