The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

The Fluffiest
@YenaMuffin
I actually had the opposite effect when it came to creativity. Being able to focus meant I could actually sit down and write stuff, which even with year of experience coping, I still don’t have the long term focus to do anymore without it, and was drawing in my free time a whole lot more than I am nowadays.

But actual Ritalin didn’t do jack shit for me. Give me the generic.

I would say “speak for yourself” but we all do that here. I was diagnosed fairly late in life with ADD and was put on ritalin extended release. The change has been good for me. I can focus better, which means less frustrations. I didn’t become a “zombie” and I sure as hell didn’t lose any creativity. I honestly wish I had been on this sooner, such as back in my college days. Ritalin, like all other pharmaceuticals is not for everyone, given the wide range of body chemistry. However, there are some people who do need it and for whom it does help. Demonizing a medication because of the actions of some over-anxious parents and prescription-happy physicians completely glosses over the fact that there are a number of us for whom this medication has done actual good.

Ritalin’s annoying as hell to take. Most ADHD meds are, but you have to take Ritalin twice a day, it tasted gross, and it made me antsy and not want to eat. I had severe ADHD as a kid, and it helped some, but in the end developing effective coping mechanisms was what turned me into a functional human being. I still have a lot of trouble with it, but at the very least I don’t have to take medication anymore.

Poe’s law: The idea that without a clear indication of the author’s intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of extremism.

You are now realizing that MLP:FIM is in fact anti-psychopharmacology propaganda. Every one of the Mane 6 has mental problems that ordinarily would be “solved” by prescription drugs, whether it’s Twilight’s Aspergers, RD’s ADHD, or Pinkie Pie’s bipolar disorder. And yet the show shows them dealing with their psychological issues and working them out without resorting to medication.

Absolutely, there are people who need it (my brother for example). It’s jsut the way it has been handled in the US in the last few years probably did a fuckton of damage to a lot of people, as Nightweaver20xx knows all to well.

I just easily get my panties in a bunch when people throw the ADHD diagnosis around like it’s going out of style.

Also, that’s Ken Robinson speaking. I could listen to him talk about education all day and I never miss an opportunity to throw that link around :P

Look, I get it. Okay? I knew two of my friends growing up who were practically force-fed Ritalin. I recently met one of them, my cousin. He’s a zombie now, practically retarded. The other one is in a mental hospital. So don’t presume I don’t know shit about the misdiagnosis and mistreatment of ADHD.
