Celly & Luna: Trueblood Alicorns = actual immortality
 
Cadence & Twi: Artificial/Ascended Alicorns = limited lifespan

Here’s a thought: Maybe Celestia and Luna are a special case, and Twilight and Cadance AREN’T immortal? Does this EVER occur to ANYONE?

It makes perfect sense. Ponies have a rough lifespan of 25 to 30 years, while tortoises can live for over 150.

Don’t see how they’re “nerfing” her lifespan when it has never even been stated that she got this longer lifespan in the first place. Its never been said that the sisters lived that long merely because they’re Alicorns either, so even that is going on pure speculation.
 
Twilight/Cadance could very easily have normal lifespans, unlike the sisters.  
There is nothing directly suggesting the opposite, and after an official statement saying that Twilight won’t outlive her friends, that only makes it clearer. No reason to deny it.
 
And heck, for all we know, even the sisters could have normal lifespans, but decided to use the age spell to keep themselves young so they could keep watching over their subjects/duties until they found suitable successors or something along those lines.
 
There’s no such thing as nerfing when the trait in question is pure fanon.
 
The point is that the show never compromised by saying stuff like “All Alicorns have long lifespans” or “Twilight now has a longer lifespan”. That’s just what a part of the fanbase chose to believe. So if the people in charge then go and state she won’t outlive her friends, its not contradicting anything. There’s no reason to doubt them or claim its BS.

That’s merely a lazy cop out in attempt to calm the masses, where it’s easier for them to avoid responsibility and say something that wouldn’t stir up any controversy in the fandom, even if it means lying. Just because the top dogs said it doesn’t mean it’s true, not without giving us explanation for why it is so.
 
We shouldn’t accept halfassed excuses for “canon” like this. Lauren always gives clear, full replies when asked about the lore and characters of FiM, giving detailed information, however controversial it may be. Nothing like the new people who inadvertently make up something mundane to play it safe, because they only know the bare basics about the world of FiM. As such their credibility is deemed inadequate. The fans may not be in position to dictate canon but they can and should disregard dubious “official” statements like this one.

Well, “they” are in charge of the show now. Thus, I would think “their” word would count for more than that of the fans in matters like this.

“They” say a lot of things, unless they give a sensible reason for nerfing her lifespan it doesn’t mean jack what they say.
