Well on her way. Whatever excuses or reasons one might suggest for why those instances occurred, the fact remains that Rarity was frequently seen cavorting with famous individuals related to fashion and entertainment ever since season one. And from the very first time that happened, it would have been dubious to say she was some kind of unknown, dreaming of the day she’d get to design for the ponies at the top. It’s true that her career still had room for advancement, but she was definitely already in the upper echelon of her field.

Actually, this image reminds me: Does the Burgess Meredith pony have a name yet?

Hoity Toity came only because Spike convinced him to.
 
Sapphire Shores specifically mentioned Rarity as being an “up-and-coming designer”, and learning about her as such from a magazine.
 
Photo Finish only showed an interest in Rarity after running into her in the street and being impressed with her hat (and quickly lost interest again due to being so taken with Fluttershy).
 
So, yeah, I’d say evidence points to Rarity not being a famous fashion designer during season 1, but she was definitely on her way to that status.

Oy. Fine. The joke is, is Spitfire is implying she won’t make it out of said training camp and into the Wonderbolts if she doesn’t fly for their team, and Dashie’s jumping on that because it’s a convenient excuse to fly with them instead of her own team.

Is that sarcasm? As RIG said, trainees at the academy aren’t Wonderbolts, nor are they guaranteed such a position if/when they complete the course.

I would be truly shocked if someone actually achieved a lifetime goal in this show. Which pretty ironic, considering the purple one’s position these days.
