I get what they are implying. This retcon just makes no sense. Plus it sucks out the little suspense they had in the movie completely. Because 30 days isn’t “a really long time”.

i think they are implying that 30 moons is a month. finally we get an actual measurement for a moon and it still makes eqg look dumb

wait, once every moon cycle, and not every thirty moons? Then what was the fuss all about? She could have stayed there for a month and then come home?

I would take any information from “Hearth’s Warming Eve” with a grain of salt, if I were you. That was just a play that the characters were performing, and there’s no reason to assume it was 100% historically accurate.

The comic isn’t breaking canon. Most likely, Celestia and Luna were alive back then, but weren’t rulers. {Probably more along the roles of aloof gods, staying away from civilization.}
 
It could be implied, in the case of Luna Eclipsed, that they knew him personally. {Since she commends Twilight for getting the wardrobe right.}

nothing was explicitly detailed about his past. far as we know, he either extended his lifespan or, simply, they were alrady alive back then.
 
it would mean that the itnerim before them colonizing and discord appearing was brief. or simply discord was already there and no one knew about him because, well, he was napping perhaps. heck maybe he was even banished to equestria.
 
the hsitory of the regal sistesr re vague enough that itnerpretation is various. though it would explain why celestia would have an entire starshwirl library and seems and such. he was her confidant.
 
admitably it kinda ruijns my hope that he was their tutor, but it far from breaks a thing.

Before Celestia’s reign. They never said Celestia and Luna weren’t alive back then, only that Starswirl WAS alive before the uniting of Equestria.

It’s been established that Star Swirl the Bearded existed before Celestia in Hearth’s Warming Eve.
