Why can’t our rock candy be more like Equestria’s?
They make candy out of actual rocks (only certain rocks but rocks nonetheless), eat rocks, throw rocks, pulverize rocks, and dig through solid ground made from smaller rocks!

The rocks are a modification to an original traditional Pie family recipe?
I was watching in a group so I couldn’t hear what was going on too well, unfortunately.
In the Pinkie book, it seems like they sell the rocks for decoration and the whole reason they come to Ponyville in the first place there is because crystal imports from the Crystal Empire have taken a massive chunk of their business.
If the rocks are edible then they can at least have a reason to sell the rocks.

I’d say it’s mostly Pinkie’s interpretation of events.
After all, Maud’s smiling the entire time.
It’s possible that Maud just told her that. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some kind of edible rock in Equestria. Heck, maybe that’s what they farm.
