HOKUTO HYAKURETSU KEN!!!
“Omae wa mou shindeiru…”
Of course it doesn’t. I was just quoting one of the dumb excuses people use to explain the numerous feats of earth pony strength.
There are several, apparently.
Dunno ‘bout her family, though. Cloudy Quartz, Igneous Rock, Marble Pie and Limestone Pie don’t sound much like puns.
Maud Pie. Mud Pie.
Does that mean that all the Pie family members canon names are puns? Key Lime Pie? Sweet Potato Pie? Pot Pie?
That excuse doesn’t make any sense. There was no indication that the love potion gave them extra strength. I should add that in the same episode, Cheerilee busted through 2 doors and a whole changing room. AND way back in season 1 in Fall Weather Friends, that sprint contest AJ was already significantly faster than RD on ground before a large penalty. I believe the majority of Earth ponies are the pinnacle of the pony anatomy. They may even be even long lifers since most elder ponies I’ve seen were earth ponies and Granny Smith is pony Methuselah.
IMO the most jarring example of this is people trying to explain Big Mac being able to pull an entire house in Hearts and Hooves as something that was caused by the love potion.
Now, the problem is that we’ve seen Mac pull and lift a shitton of different heavy objects in the show before, not to mention the four earth ponies being able to pull a goddamn train and do it at a pretty high speed.
The thing with Twilight is mostly people going: “man, unicorns are so awesome and superior because they can do <insert a list of powerful spells Twi has used in the show here>”.
Let’s take for example teleportation. Only three characters from the show have shown to be able to do that: Nightmare Moon, Celestia and Twilight. Yet people constantly mention it like something all unicorns are capable of doing.
Also, speaking of Pinkie - her super speed has been often attributed to her 4th wall breaking powers or Rule of Funny. However, now that Maud has entered the picture I think it’s no longer the case. Why? Simple - Maud’s superspeed wasn’t supposed to be used to deliver a joke, it was used in a scene that was supposed to be taken seriously: a life-threatening situation. Notice how Pinkie suddenly loses her 4th wall powers when shit gets serious, yet she retains her stamina and Pinkie Sense.
Because we don’t know crap about their magic.
Sunset is the only other non-alicorn we’ve seen do that, and she’s implied to be rather good at the whole “magic” thing.
Maybe those Ocs read the Move From Point A to Point B spell in a book, like Twilight does for most of her spells, I don’t friggin’ know.
Then why does every fanon and OC unicorn and their mother have the ability to teleport, despite the fact that the pilot implied that Twilight learned it from copying Nightmare Moon and had never seen that ability before? (Sure, I’m exaggerating, but still)
Okay, Dash I get, but I don’t think anyone would seriously try to cite Twilight as an example of the average unicorn’s capabilities.
Before Cheese, you could make a similar argument for Pinkie.
@Flak
The really annoying part is that everything that THEY do is treated as normal for their race yet everything PINKIE does is treated as exclusive to her. Double standard much?
True I guess.
@ Sereg
I should check it out.
>until now they’ve definitely been lagging behind Pegasi and unicorns.
Not really. Pinkie had her powers since the beginning and i’m not talking about her 4th wall breaking power, but her extreme speed and Pinkie sense. AJ and Mac have been shown to be extremely strong very early in the show too.
It’s just that for some stupid reasons, people took both Twilight and Dash as examples of a standard unicorn/pegasi, even though both of them are explicidly stated to be exeptional individuals in relation to the average member of their respective races. For god’s sake, the only notable moment when a background unicorn is shown using her so-much-vaunted telekinesis shows her struggling to open a jar of peanut butter!
Why haven’t you read my fic yet!? You know … the one which is largely about earth ponies NOT lagging behind pegasi and unicorns?
And I have no problems since they’re oft teased as having no or lame abilities/powers.
Not entirely true. Applejack’s special talent is apples, yet her hindlegs are practically a pair of deadly weapons. In Fall Weather Friends we see her completely breaking the Strength-test-thingy just with ONE HOOF. In Mare-Do-Well she uses her hind legs to stop a carrage speeding down a steep cliff/hill and she does it without flinching. Not to mention she can use those hooves to launch rocks with precision and enough force to shatter a timberwolf.
Not to mention the numerous feats of super-strength performed by Big Mac.
My point is that it’s possible that Earth Ponies can can use their innate strength in a way that helps them with their special talent, in a similiar manner that unicorns use their innate magic (see Rarity, Trixie).
Let’s not even go into the strange psychic abilities some of the earth ponies seem to possess. I’m of course talking about Pinkie, but also Cheese and his strange Party Sense. Also, aren’t the crystal ponies (who are basically an off-shot of the earthies) able to project their good mood through entire Equestria?
Anyway, I could talk about earth ponies for hours. I’ll stop now.
@Jack-o-Lantern
“We grow food” may sound lame at first, until you analize bits and pieces from the show and realize what exactly it means. A colony of earth ponies managed to transform a barren desert into a sprawling orchard, building a settlement in the process. Honestly, earth ponies are starting to sound like a super-organism created for the purpose of terraforming the land to suit the glorious pony race.
I can already imagine Equestrians conquering the changeling wasteland and then sending waves of earthponies to settle in and transform the inhabitable land into lush forests and green fields filled with rainbows and sunshine.
Just my two cents.
Everypony has a special talent, I don’t see reason to believe that mauds abilities are related to her being an earth pony rather than her special talent (mastery of rocks)
That, I agree with.
Still pretty sure Maud is supposed to be exceptional.
Don’t take it too seriously. I didn’t take yours seriously. Just wanted to point out to Applelight that it happened before. Your comment was just an incidental. And obviously an earth pony that spend her entire life on a rock farm would be better than a unicorn doing it once.
Cause before this episode the only thing earth ponies had going for them was “We grow food.”
