Name: Damani means ‘of a bright tomorrow’
Age: Filly, a little older than the CMC. (She looks older here but that’s because of my style, i find it difficult to draw young ponies.)
Back Story:
Damani has spent most of her life in a bad home situation with parents too poor and uncaring to properly care for their daughter. Both of her parents were heavy smokers and she has damaged lungs as a result. (Lung damage was one of the problems listed in ‘points to consider.’)
Her missing leg is the result of an untreated greenstick fracture, (a clean break in the bone,) than was left untreated. The bones healed but incorrectly, giving her a very weak leg. Eventually, due to malnutrition her already weak bone broke again, this time as a compound fracture. (Bone sticking out of the skin.) Her parents tried to treat it themselves but eventually had to take Damani to hospital where her mangled leg was amputated.
The prosthetic one she has now is a ‘flex-foot’ cheetah.’
Her eyes which were also damaged by her parents smoking were healed to the best of the doctors ability. She can see but not very well. Damani has grown out her hair to cover the scare where her horn once was.
Damani was immediately removed from her parents custody and placed into foster care. Later she was put through adoption and ended up in Alula’s care. Alula, (one of my oc’s who is blind,) sympathized greatly with the young filly and took her under her wing. She taught Damani how to function without her eyesight, (reading braille, etc) and is currently teaching her how to read fortunes.
Damani has been very good for Alula, who has a soft-spot for foals. She is less depressed and lonely than before.
