Just because we didn’t see it happen, doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen.

If we alter the definition of Mary Sue to someone who dodges the consequences of her actions so easily to everyone except the audiance and Discord, then Alicorn Twilight would be a Mary Sue.
 
She wasn’t a Mary Sue before even with her high magic cause she could still be given deserved criticism. But in S4, she has Karma Houdini Plot Armor. There are many times she deserves criticism from either herself or her friends, but they just glance right over it. I don’t even remember a scene where Twilight apologizes to Fluttershy for turning her into a vampire. I can’t think of a single reason Twilight Sparkle before MMC wouldn’t.

You call something a Mary Sue when they can over come any problem presented to them without any trouble or effort, completely shutting down any potential for character growth or plot development within the confines of the story.
 
Put simply, if a character is flawless, they’re a Mary Sue… The worst kind of flaw. Diamond Tiara is a problem in and of herself and has waaaaay too much room for character development to be a Mary Sue. As it stands, Twilight, having ‘mastered friendship’ when she became an alicorn, would have been a Mary Sue… Thankfully, Discord is best Mary Sue shutdown and Twilight ends up flailing her hooves helplessly whenever he’s around…
 
And no, Discord is not a Mary Sue for the same reason as Tiara. He causes too many problems and rarely fixes anything.
