It’s caused they’ve released all those male characters,probably to make up for the lack of males in the previous seasons.And in order to make them more than just background ponies they interact with the main six heavily,some would say heavily than most other characters in the the last seasons.The dominance of non-heterosexual shipping was due to the scarcity of available connections but with all these new characters perhaps we see a growth in normal fandom shipping now(probably not).
