Detailed syntax guide

I prefer Pipbloom. I don’t really get Lunasquek, it seems kinda like a case of: “They were in the same episode and talked to each other, so let’s ship them even if it doesn’t make sense!”

At least Pip and Apple Bloom are roughly the same age and live in the same town.
Background Pony #0B3F
At least Apple Bloom has a canon personality. People who ship DinkyPip are basing the relationship entirely around Dinky’s (completely unremarkable) character design. Her character has no significant attributes other than that she has been misidentified as Derpy’s daughter in popular fanon.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

OK.
Why do people ship characters who never even interacted?
I’m not talking about Lunasqueak, more like Pipbloom.
Is it more like a “what if?” than anything?
