You don’t get it, do you. You bring up Mass Effect when no one is talking about Mass Effect. I bring up Twilicorn when people are talking about Twilicorn. It’s not hard to understand.
Then again, you like Confused Matthew, who thinks Mel Brooks is on par with the dickheads who did Epic Movie and Meet the Spartans.
In terms of intensity and size, I’d say the Twilicorn shitstorm is behind only Derpygate and maybe EqG; the difference is that the others you listed were primarily directed outward from the fandom, whereas Twilicorn was largely an intrafandom battle.
@Ilsor
People would be arguing over there really was harmony in the fandom at any time in the past.
@Dale
One thing about those earlier dramas: they were all either smaller or about smaller things, or rather short-lived. I started hanging around the fandom a couple of months before S2 started, and the impression I got at the time was that the part of the fandom that felt the show was doomed to ruin because of Lauren Faust’s departure was a definite minority, one that was quickly dwarfed by the influx of new fans. The anxieties over Discord and Cadance all but disappeared when their respective episodes aired; while there’s still a large section of the fandom that loathes “Feeling Pinkie Keen”, “The Mysterious Mare Do Well”, and “Putting Your Hoof Down”, they pretty much all agree that the series is ruined because of one or two bad episodes.
While the fandom has never, in my experience, been truly harmonious, it does seem to me that we generally got along better before S3. As that season went on, the divisions grew sharper between those who thought it was the inexorable decline of a once-great series, those who thought it was the best season yet, and those who thought it was a rough patch that hopefully would not last. Twilicorn just was the flashpoint that cemented those divisions and pretty much made them irreconcilable.
>OP obsesses over Twilicorn drama
You know what they say about people who live in glass houses…
I was hedging politely, since I don’t actually have any numbers. I’m sure not all the userbase made the transition, but I really don’t actually know.
Not to mention getting rid everything that made PB terrible.
I.e., racism, stupid advice animals, images made solely to personally attack other members, slow as shit loading times, non-existent moderation, etc.
“ Derpibooru now is a lot bigger, I’m pretty sure, than PB ever was.”
Well, yeah, because it started out inheriting everything PB ever was, and basically only gained since then.
Probably, yeah, long enough ago.
Drama is a function of size. Once a group of people reaches a certain size, the probability that there will be someone who dislikes any given thing enough to try to start shit about it approaches 1.
The first dramas and shitstorms all started on 4chan and the pony chan-like spinoffs. They also largely stayed there, because the other places were small enough to be able to form a consensus of “we’re not going to talk about that”.
I remember people who were sure that Discord was going to ruin everything before those episodes aired. I remember people freaking out and wailing and gnashing their teeth and being prophets of doom over Lauren leaving. I remember Lesson Zero ruining Twilight’s character forever. I certainly remember the shitstorms surrounding The Last Roundup and Cadence being an alicorn. That’s all from the first gap between seasons or during S2 itself. I also remember Ponibooru being a relative oasis of calm consensus during the storms because it was tiny compared to the EQD comment sections or the *chans.
If you want a pony life that’s as drama free as what you remember, you just need to find a smaller community. Derpibooru now is a lot bigger, I’m pretty sure, than PB ever was.
Ponibooru, here, and occasionally ED?
It was probably when you were hanging out somewhere where you weren’t as strongly exposed to the drama.
Call me whatever you want, I still know when I had more fun.
You’re delusional. The last time the fandom was anything that could be called ‘harmonious’ was during Season 1. Maybe.
Why am I not surprised?
It’s Shyamalan.
Can’t see image that you’re probably trying to show…
Of fucking course.
Magnifico.
