Power corrupts. Only the princesses can handle this kind of magic, because only they have mastered the emotions needed to wield it. Everyone else is too angsty or screwed-up for their own good.

When your gods are real, inevitably there will be those who try to match their power… and fail. Hence, alicorn magic is widely known as dark magic, and so the alicorns can’t really use their own magic as much as they’d like because it’d make them look bad.
