That’s not such a hard choice. She was the leader of the Ponyville team. She was committed. For most people, it would be an easy choice, and if it wasn’t, it would have at least been better to be open about it instead of sneaking around.

To be fair to Rainbow Dash, she was being torn between loyalty to her past (Cloudsdale) and apparent future (Wonderbolts), and loyalty to her present (her Ponyville friends).

I thought it was pretty weak. Everyone is always talking about how much Dash has grown, but she made the decision presented in this episode far quicker in the past. And that’s just one of the many little problems I had with it…

Lemme be honest, even WITHOUT Derpy, it’s my second or third favorite episode of all time.
 
The top spots are Hurricane Fluttershy, Sleepless in Ponyville, and this. Ironically, Corey Powell wrote two of the three.
 
Derpy was just the icing on the awesome cake. There’ SO much to like about this episode even without.

Except it WAS a great Dash episode. Ditzy appeared near the end didn’t jack the episode like she did to poor AJ, so thank fuck for that.

It was a ‘meh’ Rainbow Dash episode. We all knew what was going to happen, more or less.
 
And Derpy was really only prevalent at the end. She didn’t do much episode stealing.
