Seriously, shit’s everywhere.
Well, there’s a lot of people on Tumblr who hypocritically gripe about memes sucking despite reblogging them unironically. This image satirizes them.
Fuckin’
Ah, I see. Makes a little more sense to me. It just goes to show how much the context and design helped it catch on with the fans; it even got to the point where people made real-life versions of the scepter.
I think Twilight Scepter is popular, because it’s depiction of Twilight’s face is comically off-model, (with a very goofy, or creepy grin depending on who you ask) due to the fact it was made by Discord to mock Twilight.
So overall, it’s just funny looking, so it’s amusing.
It’s less “it’s mainstream now” and more “the people who invented the meme aren’t the ones solely using it anymore” as well as “the meme itself has become the joke, rather than the context surrounding it.”
Do not even tell me Tumblr hates the latter, otherwise every single fedora joke would have fallen by the wayside.
lol I never heard it until a few years ago actually.
I don’t think it’s just “it’s mainstream now” that bothers them. Usually, when the meme spreads, it becomes overused, at least to the eye of the people who have been there since the beginning. The joke runs it’s life for them, and they just want to stop hearing it.
Damn, that saying has probably been around since as long as Donkey Kong has actually existed.
Yeah, some fans freak if anything becomes an “ascended meme.” I don’t get that.
Funny thing is Nintendo actually trademarked the saying/meme, “It’s on like Donkey Kong.” (Probably so they could use it ads, and such.)
I’ve heard people explain it “but I’m not a hipster!”
Yes. Yes you are.
@TexasUberAlles
Tumblr and Reddit are where memes go to die, and 4chan is where you go to complain about the other two sites.
A meme got popular and widespread?
A meme is being used outside of your own specific Internet group?
A meme is used by a major company, possibly as an ad gimmick?
Individual memes, sure– that “color of the sky” shit from last year was responsible for almost as many Xkit and Tumblr Savior downloads as animated GIFs and Justin Bieber– but certainly not memes in general.
Also, if you hate a certain meme, add it’s image “tag” to your filter, that way you never have to see it again, guys.
