I work for Tumblr and also for 4Chan but for 4Churd is worse. They actually create them and come to hate their own creations when it start to become widespread and escape the control of their circlejerk

Ah, I see. Makes a little more sense to me. It just goes to show how much the context and design helped it catch on with the fans; it even got to the point where people made real-life versions of the scepter.

I think Twilight Scepter is popular, because it’s depiction of Twilight’s face is comically off-model, (with a very goofy, or creepy grin depending on who you ask) due to the fact it was made by Discord to mock Twilight.

So overall, it’s just funny looking, so it’s amusing.
Javert-Was-Here

I never really understood the appeal of Twilight Scepter. Doge and SmugDash I can kinda see why; tumblr eats up anything that involves cute animals (shibe inus being the most popular) and SmugDash became popular for the facial expression.

It’s less “it’s mainstream now” and more “the people who invented the meme aren’t the ones solely using it anymore” as well as “the meme itself has become the joke, rather than the context surrounding it.”

Do not even tell me Tumblr hates the latter, otherwise every single fedora joke would have fallen by the wayside.

@Itsthinking
I don’t think it’s just “it’s mainstream now” that bothers them. Usually, when the meme spreads, it becomes overused, at least to the eye of the people who have been there since the beginning. The joke runs it’s life for them, and they just want to stop hearing it.

Yeah, some fans freak if anything becomes an “ascended meme.” I don’t get that.

Funny thing is Nintendo actually trademarked the saying/meme, “It’s on like Donkey Kong.” (Probably so they could use it ads, and such.)
MooseMcgillycuddy

It’s a similar trend not only on tumblr, but other sites as well in general with memes. Most notably 4chan.

A meme got popular and widespread?
  • “Oh I don’t think I like that meme anymore.”

A meme is being used outside of your own specific Internet group?
  • “Okay, I hate that meme now, and I want it and anyone using it to die.”

A meme is used by a major company, possibly as an ad gimmick?
  • /literally explodes in rage

Since when does Tumblr hate memes? It’s probably not as bad as Reddit– really, nothing is– but if you took out the memes Tumblr would lose a third of its posts in an instant.

Individual memes, sure– that “color of the sky” shit from last year was responsible for almost as many Xkit and Tumblr Savior downloads as animated GIFs and Justin Bieber– but certainly not memes in general.

There’s people like that here to, I’m sorry to say. They’re everywhere.

Also, if you hate a certain meme, add it’s image “tag” to your filter, that way you never have to see it again, guys.
