When people started this debate, we were trying to find something that ONLY earth ponies could do, something exclusively that only earth ponies could do and nopony else can, Strength is not something that only earth ponies can have, work on a farm is not a talent nor something that only earth ponies can do and we even have seen that pegasis and unicorns can be much more efficient than any earth pony, like when Twilight used her magic to harvest several apple trees or RD tearing down an entire barn with just one hit. But why we don’t see Unicorn or pegasus as farmes or rock farms or building houses or Something like that? my opinion is that these kinda works are considered “inferior” job, for example, when Trixie mentioned the farm tree as a humiliating job, When RD was almost giving up from her dream in the last ep, she mentioned the Rock farm as a “inferior” job (inferior than being a Wonderbolt, of course), so that’s why only earth ponies do that kind of job, because they can’t nothing exclusive for them, pegasis and unircorn are like the evolution of earth ponies and earth ponies are like the “inferior” past

Most of the construction we’ve seen on the show has been done by earth ponies. In addition, almost every extraordinary feet of strength (pulling a house, kicking down a tree, destroying boulders with bare hooves) has been performed by an earth pony, to the extent that yes, we can say that it’s actually an innate characteristic. Also, there’s Applejack, who is the most useful member of the cast when it comes to the sheer number of skills that she’s mastered (lassoing, applebucking, cooking, farming, construction, fucking ice sculpting, a a whole bunch of others) as well as other earth ponies that have an enormous skill set. The fashion, media, business, and entertainment industry are wholly dominated by earth ponies, along with farming. In fact, I don’t think there’s a single job we’ve seen in canon that doesn’t specifically require magic or wings that hasn’t been done by earth ponies. Pegasi seem to be either military or weather control for the most part, which doesn’t leave them with a huge amount of opportunity. Unicorns can hold many jobs in theory, but we don’t see them in as many different roles as earth ponies, which suggests that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. In addition, they’ve been shown to be just as dexterous with their hooves, mouths and tails as unicorns are with horns.
 
Not in theory, but in practice, earth ponies are the most all around useful, at least in canon, because they’re more adaptable, stronger, and versatile. They don’t have any flashy powers, but they can enter pretty much any career they want, and have a wide skill set to help them accomplish their goals, despite not having many built in advantages.
 
So I’d actually prefer to be an earth pony, just based on what we’ve seen in the show.

I think that if there were no earth ponies, only pegasis or unicorn, they would just make the farm just like earth ponies do, but much more efficiently, just look what Twilight could do?like harvesting several apple trees at once, I dare to say that one 1 unicorn can do the labor that 10 or more earth ponies can do and in a shorter time, pegasis can be efficient too, they faster than any earth pony, what would cut the time to do any labor, AJ can’t even tear down an old barn, she needed to ask help from RD and everyone saw what she could do.

man, this is actually a great bullshit? what’s special about digging a hole on the ground and putting some seed on them? Is this that hard? of course not, the only reason that pegasis or unicorn don’t do this labor is because they don’t want to. But this is not something special at all, it’s not something that only earth ponies can do, pegasus or Unicorns can do it if they want and more efficiently, but earth ponies can’t fly or use magic even if they want.

By doing their thing, allowing earth ponies to grow food in pretty much perfect conditions.  
Then they get their share of the food earth ponies produced.
 
However, assuming that there were no earth ponies, I think they could survive by being hunter-gatherers. Just like humans did.
 
Obviously, there would be much less of them and ponies would also compete with other animals for food that nature provides.

You know guys, this whole “Earth Ponies being the 3rd wheel in Equestria” thing could make an adequate/amazing fanfic about a war between all 3 races.

In those troubled times, as now, the Pegasi were the stewards of the weather. But, they demanded something in return. Food that could only be grown by the Earth ponies. The unicorns demanded the same, in return for magically bringing forth day and night.

They’re good at moving large transportation vehicles, like trains.
 
As for earth ponies being soldiers; I personally like to believe that they pull tanks and heavy artillery across the battlefields when fuel runs low. Earth ponies are probably more like heavy grunts while pegasi are higher ranking military and act as the air force.
 
Also, remember: most unicorns’ magic is specifically trained for a limited number of tasks. Twilight is an exception, as her talent is magic (see Boast Busters).

Funny how Unicorns need to concentrate to perform even the simplest glimmer of magic. Since they have such a problem with that, maybe we should send them all to Concentration Camp.
