Hah, well I could think of a few worse names for them. Besides, in a world of magic, what use is there for oil? I’ll bet Saddle Arabia and it’s neighboring territories are quiet peaceful and nice.
Oh, I guess it was just a joke. Someone came up with the name “Princess Petrocheme” or something like that. Guess it was in jest.
What on Earth did you think their names were?!
Oh, I’ve never heard those. Sorry, guess I wasn’t up to speed on the fanon.
Amira (“princess”) and Hakeem (“wise”) are… oil-related? What?! Am I missing something here??
What? They already gave the two horses we’ve seen oil-related names.
… That would be cool, but I fear what the fandom would do with that kind of material.
I’d be surprised if they didn’t want to do something with Saddle Arabia.
Well, not just them but also with donkeys, griffons, zebras and Arabian horses. They’re cutting themselves short by introducing all these other species but not following through with them. You could have episodes in distant lands, hell even sell a friggin “Saddle Arabia Playset” or whatever. There’s so much untapped potential.
Would be nice to see them form good relations with them.
And it would make for a wicked episode.
Yeah, it’s better to have dragons on your side.
You could extend that further by recruiting dragons to fight foreign invaders alongside Celestia in return for gems (which unicorns could easily spot). They could even include the Diamond Dogs in on this as it’d be easier to use them for digging in exchange for a cut of the findings.
Ponies don’t have to worry about constantly being under threat from dragons, and dragons don’t have to worry about their hoards getting stolen.
The teenagers had their little group but the adults seemed to keep to their own. For the sake of argument, lets say they do have adult groups. What would the dragons have to gain from a relationship with the ponies and vice versa?
Even if there isn’t an actual nation and they were nomads, they still have hierarchy and relations with other groups.
That stands to reason as they barely know anything about dragons.
Also, is there an actual nation of dragons? Cause so far they just seem like individual nomads. It’s kinda hard to have a diplomatic relationship with a country that doesn’t exist.
Yeah, there’s that. But I think Fluttershy talking to it like a child is a fault the ponies have in understanding dragons, not a fault of dragons for inability to speak.
Ah, so he did return him to the wild. Yea I must have missed the very beginning of that episode. I think you’re right about the episode being retconned.
So far the only older dragon (other than Spike) we saw was the one in Dragonshy, correct? If that one dragon is any indication of how the other adult dragons are then I doubt they have any expectations of maturity for their offsprings. Fluttershy literally talked to the dragon like he was a 7 year old child.
Celestia would probably see this as a political advantage as the dragons could easily be manipulated and their actions/reactions would be predictable.
Yeah, but those were just teenage dragons. Maybe the elders just let them do what they want because of their age, but expect them to grow up.
Have you seen Just for Sidekicks? Spike raised Peewee for a bit, then returned him to the wild. Took pictures and everything. It’s part of the reason why I think they realized how Dragon Quest had bad implications.
Hehe well you certainly drive home the point that Celestia is a politician before anything else.
It could play out for Spike, but he would need to regain the respect of the brutish and cruel dragons (especially having thwarted their egg raid).
Just as a side note, does it bother anyone that Spike had this existential issue because he was taken as an egg but he himself takes an unhatched phoenix egg away from it’s parents? (Granted we haven’t seen PeeWee so it’s conceivable they returned him to the wild).
The lesson he learned in Dragon Quest has almost been retconned at this point, I think they realized how sad it sounded.
Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if Celestia had plans for him as well. A dragon in a major position of power within her inner circle would certainly make relations with dragonkind easier. Hell, he might technically even be a prince.
That’s an excellent observation. And yes as Itsthinking said, Twilight does relys a bit too much on Spike, not that he minds. With age, Spike will be able to take care of himself, but I don’t see him leaving Twilight’s side anytime soon (especially considering the “lesson” he learned in Draqon Quest).
Eventually Spike will have some career goal to achieve, and much like how Shining Armor became Captain of the Royal Guard, Spike would most likely also assume some grand title within the hierarchy of the royal government (although I’m not sure what title would be most fitting for him).
Her view of him is definitely inconsistent, but I’ve always been in the camp that thinks she relies on him mentally and physically more than he relies on her.
