Description
In light of my Adventures in Ponyville post, here is the DVD that preceded it, which is, AFAIK from research, the first standalone FiM DVD, again preceding the current Shout! Factory line that started with Friendship Express. It was released in the summer of 2011. This DVD is actually even more interesting because it tries to get away with only two episodes. Both episodes as you’ll recall make reference to the Galloping Gala subplot of S1, as per the set’s theme, yet Best Night Ever is egregiously omitted!
Originally, this retailed for $10-$15. Even Seth complained about that. It gets better; if you’ve read that post, you’ll recall my casual mentioning of rarity-related price fluctuation for the Adventures of Ponyville DVD. Well, it happened with this disc, too, and it’s still rather high on Amazon. Better, check some of the irked reviews on that Amazon page when it was higher priced.

I’ve been waiting forever you know! All yesterday when I heard the news I was desperately searching for a dvd of my little pony. Apparently there was a lot of them so I decided to narrow my search five minutes ago. Saved so much time. Anyways you get a whole two episodes! Wait what? Well at least it’s at the affordable price of 27.99. With that you could what? Buy a whole volume set of any cartoon ever (animaniacs is 21.99 for the entire first volume) and with this you get two great episodes of friendship is magic. I think we know what the better deal is.
I neglected this point earlier, but one significant flaw with this and the other DVD *is its lack of subtitles and even closed captioning–*all at the aforementioned price points.
I do have a sealed copy of this for sentiment’s sake and as a collector’s item. It has two “Inspected by 006” stickers on the wrapping that are as tacky as they are cool. For what it’s worth, I have seen screengrabs of this DVD, which appear appear to be good enough quality and in 480p widescreen.
Thanks FLYingG0D @ dA for the photo.
