@441TheSecond I never thought she was all that good at fighting, and s4 kinda confirmed it. Celly was the brainy one, Luna was the brawny one.  
This would also explain why they always make sure to keep her away from fighting, same reason shounen keeps people like Jiraiya, Yamamoto, Whitebeard, etc away from the kids’ fights or from meeting the main antagonists until they’re already wounded and beatable.  
Expect if Luna gets any fight scenes that she’ll be run through a humiliation gauntlet first.

It pains me so much how much she gets jobbed just to make the stakes seem higher

The only thing Celestia is good at is exposition.

Duh, it’s all about the kowtowing of the little ponies. I guess it would be pretty hard to give that up.

Though I do headcanon that she used to be a fairly fearsome fighter, and as peacetime settled in, she stopped practicing and got out of shape.

Well technically the only pitched battle she’s lost was against Chrysalis, the vines weren’t so much a battle and in flashbacks she’s shown to at least be able to get up from the kind of attack that was shown earlier to be capable of slicing through heavy stone like butter.
 
But yeah she can’t fight for shit. Without the Elements she’s not really tough at all. You’d think she would be, but I guess horn size =/= magical power.

^Technically, she’s been helpless against every single villain in the show. She IS useless in these situations.
