Yeah, that dub is still a sore spot for OP fans even after years since its cancellation. And it’s a shame because Zoro’s voice was the only decent one. Not blaming the voice actors, but Zoro’s VA (who also played Guts from Berserk) was the only one that wasn’t a dumb out-of-place parody with a phony accent.

Alright. I get it. Still, I honestly think Zolo sounds worlds cooler. It’s like with Godzilla (I’m a huge fan). In some of the Japanese versions Mechagodzilla’s name is “Kiryu”, but they usually change it to Mechagodzilla when they send it here because, let’s face it, “Kiryu” just sounds gay.
 
Then you get the purist fans who whine and are like “UGGGGGHHHH!!! His name is Key-roo!” but I just sit back and think “Mechagodzilla sounds way cooler”

(sigh) No, it’s the other way around.
 
Look, let me explain the idea. The first dub of One Piece was made by 4kids, a company infamous for censoring and unnecessary editing of anime. One of those changes were Zoro’s name to Zolo. The fans are generally not fond to that name because they associate it with an all-around horrible dub.
