Lol, well, blame it on the show ultimately. She’s had almost no characterization, beyond eating cake messily. Luna had her own episode. People have something to work with. Socially awkward, been out of the loop for a thousand years, newly discovered fondness for games… okay, the last one people have stretched a bit from the spider toss thing, but still.
It still kinda sucks that even alternate nonsense interpretations of Celestia play second fiddle to Luna.
Path of least resistance. Plus I’m sure it’s not some ‘official’ change in direction JJ has consciously decided to take the blog. Just sorta something he fell into. Not to mention there were people bitching and complaining endlessly back when it was raunchier, and I’m talkin’ before the DWM movement. People kept submitting questions for Luna, he was interested in games himself (I imagine anyways; it would be pretty bananas if he actually did research just to make the gamer-ness more realistic), and he probably catches less flak for it now.
Then why is it even called “Ask Princess Molestia” anymore? Sure, there’s a “+Gamer Luna” there, but she appears more often and gets more questions than Molestia, so might as well reverse it to “Ask Gamer Luna +Princess Molestia”
Yeah, Molestia is a bit underdeveloped as a character. I think he started focusing on Luna more because it pleased more people; they found Luna a bit more adorable and endearing.
I didn’t say that Gamer Luna is a Mary Sue, but it it’s kinda sucky that Luna gets to have a personality beyond “BOY DO I LIKE RUBBING MY VAGINA ON THINGS”.

I would love to see examples of how she’s “little miss perfect social balance” or in any way infallible. Seriously, you’re just throwing terms around again without any backup. She’s obsessive and gets flustered easily. Look up the fuckin definition of Mary Sue and stop throwing the term around so loosely. Just because your life might be a big failure pile and you have a lot of character defects doesn’t mean anyone who’s better is a Mary Sue.

It wasn’t explicit. But it still had slightly raunchy slightly dark humour that seems to be rare among the Pony tumblrs. Plenty of cute, plenty of grim dark, plenty of porn but few that take just the balance of each. It also helped the sex jokes were way funnier than the videogame references.
