Dual Destinies confirmed something about the nature of psyche locks.
Keeping away spoilers, while red locks are connected to the mind, black ones are connected to the heart and soul. They indicate something very deep that could break their owners if they were to be broken forcefully.
I’m actually kind of surprised that TS’s author kind of nailed the nature of black locks well before Dual Destinies’ release.
Black locks are more of an evil secret. You-Know-Who from Apollo Justice had black locks because he was a corrupt and evil person. It’s implied you can’t break those.
As for the new game I’m only on case 2 so HUSH!

No. A really deep secret is 5 black Psyche-Locks.
Two characters in AA get them. And nobody likes the first one. The second.. …I’ll keep quiet.

There’s probably a very good reason for that. Look at all those locks!

It was written and takes place before season two, so it doesn’t make an effort to fit with anything from the later seasons, and more or less manufactures physics wholesale, but if you can get past that, it’s pretty good.
