What if Spike’s and Garble’s offspring fell in love with each other? There are no fanfictions about it as far as I know. This is either because people didn’t think of it, or they just didn’t want to be associated with something so horribly clichd. I honestly wouldn’t blame them either.
Oh well, it gave me an excuse to draw two more teenage dragons.
Ironically enough, I could se Garble being the rational dad in this situation.

WHAT? DON’T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT! I HAVE YET TO SEE SOMEONE UTILIZE A
DRAGON’S FORKED TONGUE FOR SMOOCHES!
They’d never do that since I’m pretty sure they find the relationship cute. Plus, it’s too big of a character development between the two and there’s lots of room for comedy/sweet moments.
I’d be disappointed if they had any kind of lesson that said he’d have to stick to his own species.
While I’m okay with Sparity, I think that I’d like it if he started dating someone that he had to go out of his way to meet. Someone that he had to put effort into pursuing, rather than just hanging around town.
Even the people behind the show have joked about Spike being in a relationship with a pony causing an uproar in Equestria. I really don’t think it matters as long as there are hooves, but Equestrians seem to be fine with physically strange creatures as long as they make an attempt to play by their rules.
Who would object to a dragon raised entirely in a pony society from birth wanting to marry a pony? He wouldn’t be a threat, and they’d be denying him something that he was taught to feel.
Hmmn. We know that donkey/pony relationships exist in Equestria. After that, who knows?
I sadly think it’s realistic. Equestria’s not supposed to be a utopia.
So many questions, so much stuff to think about. I really can’t see him liking anything other than mares at this point simply because he’s grown up around none of his own species, but I guess it could change?
@Background Pony Number 17
I’d kind of agree with this as the primary reason he’d never really find a dragonness appealing, unless she somehow found him intriguing or something.
I’m still waiting for a fic that has some dragoness abduct Spike to force him to be her mate. Keep him trapped in some cave/dungeon until his hormones turn into overdrive. And poor Spike trying desperately to retain his sanity, while Twilight and friends tear up the countryside looking for him.
It’s quite rare to come across a 1980’s version of something that is less racist than the contemporary version, but MLP is one of those things.
A Qilin is an actual thing from Chinese mythology. It has a load of different depictions, but that’s pretty normal for any mythological creature.
You gotta feel sorry for the kid; he’s a loner in just about every sense of the word.
You never know.
Maybe his feelings will change over time. Maybe he meets nice dragons or maybe biology just does its job. I like to think of Spike’s crush as a nonsexual one. Loving and lusting after something are two different things, but they can go hand in hand. Maybe as Spike goes into puberty he’ll start lusting after dragonesses, or question his sudden lack of interest in mares. Or maybe he develops a liking for mares in that area too.
Time could also be a factor. If he has a much slower aging rate than ponies, which seems to be the case, he might just consider moving on to something as long-lived as him.
On the other hand, it wouldn’t surprise me if by the end of season 4 Rarity gets her wings and extended lifespan as well, so that takes care of that problem, I guess…
Possibilities, possibilities.
Honestly? I doubt that Spike would ever want a romantic relationship with a dragon.
Oh, and there’s no agreement to what a kirin is, either.
What I meant to say, of course, is that dragons have much in common with crocs
Dragons do seem to have a lot in common with dragons.
Crocodiles don’t breathe fire and can’t speak, so maybe their parenting methods differ as well. The only way to know for sure is if they shine any light on it in the show.
A kirin, however you want to romanize the name, isn’t a hybrid between a dragon and an equine.
That seems to be what a draconequus is, judging by Cheerilee’s description.
@Itsthinking
Assuming that you go by crocodile or alligator behavior, the mother would watch the children for a short time before making them leave.
Given that one of the biggest threats to baby alligators is adult males, that seems to be a common factor to them and FiM dragons.
Obviously. He’s learned too much about that way of raising from being raised like it himself.
In Spike’s case, he would definitely stick around.
Would male dragons stay behind to care for their young? Or are they pretty much just “mate as much as possible and gather a hoard in the mean time to attract more mates?”
Regardless, Spike would be different anyway. Doesn’t really matter what dragons or ponies think in this case.
Draconequus or kirin/qilin?
Espionage, eh? You may be onto something.
Spike was like a freshman in high school trying to fit in with the upperclassmen.
